Google answers Delhi High Court regarding new IT rules NewZ

New IT rules don’t apply to us Google tells Delhi HC

As Google is a search engine not a social media intermediary

It’s a great relief that Google will not be answerable to the new IT rules because I do not support the new IT rules and I don’t find a reason to. The government is asking private social media companies to provide personal data of their clients or they would not be deemed operatable. A private company shpuld not be subjected to provide any invasive data of their customers because if they do they would loose their sales. I do not want my data to be handed to they government on a silver platter. The government can use this negatively in many ways such as taking actions against people who are writing or propogating against the government. In a democratic nation we should be free to convey our views without the danger of being portrayed as anti- nationalist over our heads. Union govt has subjected many media influencers who have written anti BJP to the same punishment. We are not anti- nationalist or anti- development if we do not support the views of the leading party. Social media is one of the biggest voices against the govt right now and I do not want that voice to be take away. Even if the government does not use our data against us we still should be consulted whether we as a citizen and consumer of the media want to make them privy to our data.
