Discriminative Rulings by Olympics’ Board NewZ

In the last 7 days the Olympics’ Board has passed many discriminatory regulations. I wanted to write on this issue because I was shocked by how little the world media condemned these judgments. Instagram and Twitter are the only platforms where people are actively voicing their criticism for these rulings.

These biased declarations are:

-> Transwomen banned from competing because of “testosterone”

-> Swimming caps made for natural hair banned because “ there is no need for such big cape”

-> Athlete Sha’Carri suspended because of consuming weed

I am going to address these verdicts separately. Firstly Transwomen are valid women. A person’s gender representation should not get in their way of competing on an international platform. Yes, it can prove somewhat unfair to other women competing but that is something which can be rectified by introducing separate competitions for trans people within the Olympics. Moreover, every woman has testosterone in them. Its levels increase during menstruation but it is ever-present in female bodies. A competition as big and representative as The Olympics should not be allowed to blatantly ignore Trans rights.

Natural hair is unstyled afro-textured hair in African and African diaspora populations. This is something someone is born with. Natural hair represents someone's culture and lineage. Olympics has no liberty to disregard the difficulty people with natural hair will have to face due to not being authorized special swimming caps for their hair. Just because the size of the cap is big does not make it unnecessary. Swimmers with natural hair require these caps to keep their hair in place while competing. The credibility of these caps is not something that should be negotiated. The caps do not provide any unfair advantage to the players and hence there is no possible reason for the board to not allow their use.

Weed is legal in many US states. Weed is not a performance enhancer in fact it has been proven to slow down the nervous system. Sha’Carri is a black woman and an olympian. Traces of weed were found in her bloodstream so the Olympics board suspended her. However, it was not considered that the consumption of weed is legal in her statement that intake of weed can only provide her with a disadvantage. So, what is the reasoning behind her suspension? Well, your answer is as good as mine. She should be allowed to contend and the Olympics council should be held more accountable.

  1. I think first two decisions are wrong but last one is a rule and every participant should follow..
